Department of Agadatantra is one among the clinical department in the Ayurveda. The department deals with the study of different visha (Poisons), its identification, understanding its actions, its clinical manifestations based on its acuteness and quantity. different plant poisons like animal venoms ,insect bites ,different mineral poisons, food poisoning etc.The department focuses in educating and training students on the concept of Toxicology with reference to Ayurveda classical references and modern concepts. The students are given a practical insight in to the identifying different types of poisonous and non-poisonous snakes and their bites, harmful insect’s, different toxic plants and other substances their clinical manifestations and the possible management. Along with these, the department manages different skin disorders and other manifestations arising due to toxicity, allergy, and other toxic exposure. The students are given an in-depth understanding of different formulations used in Agadatantra and are trained in making some of the commonly used medicines. The department also deals with imparting knowledge in Forensic medicine and Medical Jurisprudence, the practical legal aspects of law related to medical field and its applications in clinical practice. The students are educated on different food adulterations and the harmful effects of different food additives commonly used. The methods detecting adulterants are being introduced to the students. As part of educational activities the department organises field visits including visit to court, forensic Science lab etc.
